What is the girl effect? The Girl Effect is an organisation that specifically targets underdeveloped countries to break what may seem the endless cycle of poverty. They can accomplish this by connecting girls with other girls and combining their undiscovered skills to assess the mess of the world. Girl Effect works to develop a girl's' positive perception of herself and challenge the way that others may see and value them. In order for girls to gain the support they need to break the cycle of poverty all significant areas need to be focused on, as one will not be sufficient enough. In order to put this into action the organisation have made a method known as the 5+1 theory of change. The Girl Effect recognises that there are five fundamental keys that can change a girls reality and one reaction, a perception change that will motivate others to change behaviours and therefore live an empowered life. The five keys are education, health, economic security, safety and voice and rights. When a girl is given the opportunity to be educated, can gain medical safety and health by having easier access to sexual and reproductive services, is able to control economic assets, is protected from any violence and has the determination and capability to make a positive change to poverty, the cycle will break.
